Concertino Pastorale in Southampton

On 16 January 1951 the Boyd Neel Orchestra gave another performance of Concertino Pastorale, a work they had played many times. The orchestra now had a new leader – Maurice Clare, seen left – and  Ireland’s work was sandwiched between music by Handel, Bach, Mozart and Tchaikovsky. Another name on the orchestra list that night was Felix Kok, who went on to lead the CBSO for many years.
